A male student at Nanyang Junior College (NYJC) in Singapore has been suspended after allegedly attempting to film female students inside a school toilet.
The incident came to light after two students confronted the individual, who was reportedly seen exiting a cubicle in the girls’ restroom. When questioned, he claimed he was “studying.”
The school's principal, Pang Choon How, confirmed that a police report has been filed and investigations are ongoing. The student has faced disciplinary action, including suspension, a penalty to his conduct grade, and mandatory counselling. He has also been referred for further professional support, with the school working closely with his parents.
NYJC emphasized that it takes such incidents seriously and is providing support to affected students, while reinforcing measures to maintain a safe and conducive learning environment.
While schools and institutions rely on CCTV coverage and strict policies, incidents like this expose a critical limitation: there is no real-time protection inside private spaces such as restrooms and changing areas.
Most systems today are reactive rather than preventive:
This creates a gap between assumed safety and actual safety.
This is exactly the problem Detekcam is designed to address.
Detekcam helps individuals and institutions strengthen privacy protection by enabling quick detection of suspicious recording devices in sensitive environments. In situations where visual monitoring is not possible or appropriate, having an additional layer of detection awareness becomes critical.
In a case like this, tools like Detekcam could help users:
Most safety systems today focus on responding after an incident.
Detekcam shifts that approach toward prevention and early awareness, especially in environments where traditional surveillance is either restricted or ineffective.
When individuals are equipped with detection tools, the probability of undetected violations decreases and the deterrent effect increases.
This incident is not just a disciplinary case it reflects a broader issue in how privacy and safety are currently protected in sensitive spaces.
Real safety cannot depend only on punishment after the fact. It requires tools that help people detect risk earlier and act faster.
